These pages are the terms FaultLab runs on. They say in plain words what the site does and what we keep; when the site changes, they change with it, and the date below says when.

What we keep about you, and why
- Your account: your email address, whether it has been verified, and the account id from the sign-in service (Auth0). Used to sign you in and to decide what you can open.
- Sign-in sessions: a random token in a cookie on your device. We store only a scrambled (hashed) copy, so our copy cannot be used to sign in. A session lasts up to 14 days. A short-lived cookie is also used while you sign in.
- Payments: your Stripe customer id and your subscription’s plan, status, renewal date and any cancellation, plus a record of each payment event Stripe sends us. Stripe holds your card details; we never see them.
- Ask the Shop (Pro): what you send with a question (the vehicle, the complaint, codes, what you tested, your thinking and any files you attach), whether you allow it to become a training case, and the shop’s answer. Only you and the shop’s answerers can see it. Files are kept in private storage.
- Access codes: if you use a code from the shop, the code, your email address and account id, when you used it and when your access runs out. For an admin code given to someone helping run the shop, also who made it, when you were last signed in (at most once an hour) and whether it was revoked.
- Shop packages: if you join a shop with its code, the summary your copy of the app sends to your shop lead and any co-owners of the shop: your finished cases and outcomes, ASE practice scores by area, Technician Path sign-offs, Circuit Lab challenges solved, best Virtual Shop scores, and your active time on FaultLab and the number of days you used it, and, for each case and Virtual Shop job you finish, the steps you took (each test with what you expected and how you read it, each diagnosis and repair, and a shop job’s log), which the shop’s owners can replay; the latest attempt of each is kept. Your name (the part of your email before the @), points, tier and time appear on the shop’s leaderboard, which the shop’s members can see unless an owner hides it. The shop’s owners can assign you cases, labs and Virtual Shop jobs, with a due day and a short note; we keep those assignments for the shop until an owner removes them. Nothing is sent for anyone who is not in a shop.
- Weekly numbers: a shop owner can keep the shop’s weekly figures on the Owner page (car count, sales, costs, payroll totals and each service advisor’s estimated and sold totals, with the first name the owner types). They are kept with the shop’s account, seen only by the shop’s owner and co-owners, and never shown to anyone else; deleting a week deletes it. A file the owner uploads is read on their own device; only the figures in it are sent.
- The FaultLab 20 Group: if you, as a shop owner, join a 20 Group, the other shops in your group see your shop’s name, its state, how many years it has been open and the first name you give, plus what you post on the group’s board and the events you propose. We keep the first three digits of the shop’s ZIP code (to keep competing shops apart), never shown to the group. The monthly numbers your shop enters are shown to the group only as the group’s median and middle half, once at least five shops have entered the month, never as your shop’s own figures. Leaving the group deletes your shop’s numbers; your posts stay on the board unless you ask the shop to remove them.
- Time on FaultLab: your copy of the app counts the time you are actively using it (the page in view and something touched, clicked, typed or scrolled in the last two minutes) and the days you used it, for your hour badges. It is kept in your browser, and sent only as part of a shop package summary.
- Server logs: our host records requests (such as the time, the address requested and your IP address) to run the service and keep it secure.
What stays on your device
Your progress inside the app (cases, ASE practice answers, job worksheets, glossary cards, Path sign-offs and the captures you save in the Wave Form Library) is stored in your browser on your device, not on our servers, unless you are in a shop package as described above. Clearing your browser’s site data deletes it.
Who else handles it
We use a few services to run FaultLab, and each handles only what it needs: Auth0 (sign-in, passwords, email verification and password reset emails), Stripe (payments and billing), and Cloudflare (hosting, the database and file storage). The app’s fonts are loaded from a font service, which sees your IP address when it sends them.
We do not sell your information, we do not show ads, and we do not use advertising or tracking cookies. The cookies we set are the ones needed to keep you signed in.
How long we keep it
Account, billing and Ask the Shop records are kept while your account is open. Sessions expire on their own; sign-in records last minutes. When you ask us to close your account, we delete your account, your questions and their files, and any shop progress. Stripe keeps its own payment records for as long as the law requires, and backups age out on their own.
Your choices
You can ask to see, correct or delete the information we keep about you, or to close your account: use the contact address the shop will list here from the email address on the account. We will answer within 30 days.
FaultLab is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly keep information about them. If you think a child under 13 has an account, tell us and we will delete it.
If we change this notice in a way that matters, we will update the date at the top and tell members before the change applies.
